The climate emergency is the biggest economic, social, and environmental threat facing the planet and humanity today. We are at a crossroads. Impacts of the climate emergency are increasingly affecting all nations and exacerbating inequalities, eroding resilience of countries and communities, affecting our ability to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has launched a webinar series entitled Risk Dialogues 2021 to provide a space to discuss, debate and provide insights into the most pressing climate and disaster risk issues of today. This webinar focuses on the disaster risk implications of the recently released Sixth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I
which warns us that human-induced climate change is leading to weather and climate extremes in every region. This, in turn, is driving up risks and pointing to an urgent need to accelerate action to avert climate related disaster risks, through fast-tracked implementation of the Sendai Framework.
